Outdoor activities with an iPhone

The hike from Marstrand went fine, but I had a few more problems after
the stove.

First of all was the weather not good enough to allow my solar panel
to increase the battery level while I was using it. I did however
manage to charge it enough to make a quick phone call from a flat
battery only after a few minutes of morning sun.

The other problem was that my hammock got damaged and lost its form so
instead of having lots of air inside it was more like laying in a
sleepingbag. After the problems I was quite happy to conclude the trip
once I got to Partile after 53km and took the train the last bit.

Now I am sailing with a friend in Vättern and nothing has gone wrong
yet, not even when we where out swimming between some islands.

The iPhone brings the net into the outdoors but good weather is needed
if it should be used extensive with only sun energy.

Halfway from Marstrand to Kungälv

Just had lunch but as usual things didn't work as intended. My stove
which I cleaned and tested just a few days ago didn't work so I had to
be satisfied with cold "falukorv".

On the way here I downloaded a podcast over GPRS which took like am
hour and a half plus 50% of the battery. The fact that the first time
failed meant that the download just finished before I got to my lunch
break And that the battery was almost empty.

Now I have rested for about an hour and the battery is reaching 50%.
Huss the phone would have died if I hadn't been charging on the way
while downloading.

Over 20hours of standby and over 8 hours of usage while still having
50% left of the battery is quite good :-).

Enjoy the picture of my lunch site :-) more details to follow...

Short post from the hike

This is just a short posting to verify the technique to post from the
iPhone. More details will be given tomorrow.

Modded car charger to work with the iPhone

Can just let you know that the charger mod for the iPhone seams to work. Will see if I can make some photos of my outdoor setup later when the sun is shining again and I can test the performance.

Have to thank my friend Iman who helped me with performing the mod aswell.

Multitouch table - Not Microsoft Surface

Got a quick presentation of Touchtech. Don't know what I can say except that it's quite awesome to touch the video window with your hands.

Preparing the iPhone for outdoor usage...

Time for another topic (the Mac OS X will return don't worry), getting the iPhone to charge while camping. The idea is that I should be able to be trekking and traveling for as long as I want without losing the connectivity to the rest of the world.

To achieve my goal I just bought a Silva Solar II (http://www.silva.se) and a simple USB car charger. Today there has been perfect weather with massive sun light so I thought it was a good idea to try it out to charge my iPhone.

I got a bit disappointed when it didn't work. Everything seamed to be okey except that the iPhone wasn't charging. After some massive surfing to find other solutions, like having battery packs to increase the current in case it was to low etc I finally found this very informative post: How to Charge an iPhone.

Just got to get something to eat and then I'm off to test his theory. Try to post an update later on.

Video of Excel problem in Leopard

I have now created a short video of when I reproduce the Excel problem on a new MacBook Pro. My friend who was holding the camera got a phone call which resulted in that the last part of the video is a bit shaky. But I think that the instructions to reproduce the problem should be easy to get anyhow.

This problem is available on the new MacBook Pro (the one with the multitouch) both 15" and 17" model. The shown problem can however not be done after the 10.5.3 update, but I have another similar problem which I can reproduce on 10.5.3 as well. Will see if I can produce a video of that aswell, in the mean time you can read earlier posts about the Numbers bug.
