The instructions on the link posted earlier didn't help my Canon 1000D. I left it at for service today and hopefully it will be returned during the week.
Some indications on the net suggest that the error could be when not using Canon lenses which is hard to accept since there was no problem during the first 700 shots.

My EOS 350D does that sometimes with my Sigma lens. I never noticed it depending on the amount of photos taken though.
Well now it's at most photos but after I have removed the battery and reinserted it everything works fine for a while. Will be interesting to see what the Canon service people have to say. Somehow I assume they just will blame the lens which isn't fair in my opinion.
