I'm not sure if I have problem with Parallels or the Linux installation which I run within Parallels but regardless the VM system has stopped working properly now and then.
Previously I had to restarted the VM the hard way but I have not found a nicer way to restart the system that I like to share:
1. Hold down the Alt and SysRq (Print Screen) keys.
2. While holding those down, type the following in order. Nothing will appear to happen until the last letter is pressed: REISUB
3. Watch your computer reboot magically.
